Candied Bacon

There is s local business that candies their bacon and calls it man candy. It is darn tasty and worth the cash!

We missed Saturday’s beer and bacon fest but were having a special party at our local brewery that we are member’s of and decided to make our own fancy bacon for the event.

First i found Emerrils recipe, but he didn’t have enough heat or heat! (spice or temp) so we upped it all and really really enjoyed the results. Lots of people at the event really loved our results too!

  • Cooking spary
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 pound center cut bacon

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line a broiler pan with aluminum foil, and position cookie rack on top of pan. Lightly coat the rack with pam.

Combine the brown sugar, cayenne and red pepper flakes in a shallow dish, stirring to mix well. Press both sides of each slice of bacon firmly into the spiced sugar to coat well. Arrange the slices of bacon on top of the broiler rack in a single layer. If there is any sugar remaining in the dish, sprinkle it on top of the bacon slices evenly. Bake until the bacon is crisp and the sugar is bubbly, 35 to 40 minutes. Transfer to paper towels to drain briefly, then to a plate or serving dish to cool. (Can be made several hours ahead) Serve warm or at room temperature.  (I cut each slice in half so that everyone could get a taste)

All in all – absolutely no re-deeming value in the bacon except for yumminess, but definitely something fun to enjoy and share with friends!
